How would you like to
see an artist perform in your town ?
The "House Concert"
Concept.
House
concerts are a phenomenon that have been catching
on all over the world. In the USA, SLAMM Magazine
had this to say:
"Frustrated
by the distance traditional venues put between artists
and their audiences, these concerts sought to bring
the music back to places where artist and listener
shared the same few feet of floor space. Almost
all of the concerts are acoustic, focusing on the
long-ignored art of the singer/songwriter"
If
you are interested in hosting a house concert, then
just visit an artists web site, send them an e-mail
to to see if they are interested and available,
and then set it up.
Idealy you should be able to invite 20 to 40 (or
more) friends, and to spread the cost, each guest
contributes a few pounds (say £5 to £10)
depending on how much is required to pay the artist.
You can provide drinks / food to make a great party.
If you home isn't big enough to hold a concert,
you may find a local venue is available, i.e. scout
hut, church / village hall, pub function room etc.
Note: Our friends
and I have held, or been to, about 10 "House
Concerts" now and they have been brilliant
evenings and are highly recommended. Many touring
artists are happy to play them and it is a great
way to enjoy some excellent musicanship. Friends
can join you in your own home or local venue - club,
church hall etc. - Barry.
